Sublime Surprise
Yes, without much doubt, the traveler will meet their island expectations in this KaMilo Townhome. And yet, as one will find their palm trees, warm breeze, bare knees, and sweet and expansive retreat, there is also sublimely more to this Big Island property than a typical tropical rental. What this four-bedroom, three and a half-bathroom townhome offers its eight guests is a surprising environment of such a definitive sleek nature, with decorative touches of such certain metropolitan sophistication combined with contemporary rustic decor, that the modern city-dwelling traveler will be pleased by how well their mainland lifestyle can put its feet up and chill.
While the stunning view of Mauna Kea from the generous lanai captures attention from front-row sunrise to reflective sunset, the interior landscape of this home embraces with its charm of ease and elegance. Upon entry, the clean lines of the dining and living areas, and the refined and well-appointed open kitchen, receive the visitor with chic comfort. Bar stools at the island encourage coffee chats, the round dining table elicits the jovial trading of the day’s adventures, and the inviting lanai furniture, found beyond a full-room-width set of disappearing patio doors, provide the peaceful offerings of the daytime breeze and the nighttime stars. And then, there’s the putting green.
A convenient Junior Master Suite on the main floor, with its own en suite and spacious closet, affords a gracious and convenient private space for one couple; while a half-bath powder room serves the living area. Down on the lower floor, the Grand Master Suite has access to both its own lower lanai, and own expansive bathroom with double vanity, walk-in shower, walk-in closet, and deep soaking tub with a view. A second downstairs bedroom has its own interior courtyard for its lanai, and full hall bathroom with tub and shower combination.
The unique choices for the interior décor cannot be overstated, in that the owners show off their modern resort style, blended with island subtlety. Where there is a piece of furniture, there is art; and where there is art, there is surprise. Yet, no surprises are left long undiscovered within walking minutes, or quick driving distance from the rental. The KaMilo property includes both a large recreational pool and lap pool, a well-equipped workout room, and large common pavilion area with generous seating and kitchen available. Venture beyond the private gates, and one can walk to the Fairmont Orchid for dinner, drinks, and sunset, or to the Shops at Mauna Lani for convenient coffee, shopping, and exceptional dining. A quick drive gets one to the exclusive Mauna Lani Beach Club with its warm, white sand and cool, calm waters. Rent a paddleboard, or schedule a sunset cruise, or stay put at the excellent bar and restaurant.
There is something exceptional about this home at KaMilo, and it expects it to be you.

Enjoyed sunrises over Mauna Kea from the Lanai!

Enjoyed sunrises over Mauna Kea from the Lanai! This is our first (but not last!) stay at KaMilo. Our family of five had a lovely week stay in this condo. We've been to the Big Island many times and have always stayed in the Mauna Lani resort area, at both a hotel and condos. We chose this development because it's brand new. The swimming pool is large and one of the nicer ones we've seen in condo developments. If you want the beach right outside your door, this is not the place for you, but the best beaches on the island (Hapuna, Mauna Kea, Kua Bay) are a short car drive away. Some of the state park beaches were completely stripped of sand because of winter storms (first time in many trips we've seen this), so having access to the beach club with it's protected bay gave us an additional option only Mauna Lani resort guests have. There is an upscale grocery store (Foodland Farms) two minutes away by car, where we picked up provisions every day. The only change I'd suggest would be to put twin beds in the downstairs guest bedroom, to better accommodate families with older children. The bedrooms are spaced far apart so for three couples, everyone has plenty of privacy. Shig, the manager, greeted us when we arrived and when he noticed we'd needed an extra beach chair and a couple more boogie boards for our family, he brought them over right away. There was also a delicious box of cookies waiting for us in the kitchen! The lanai off the living room had a nice view of Mauna Kea and Kohala (the latter being temporary until the cottage across the street is built) and a landscaped green space. I sat there every morning with my coffee and watched the sunrise over Mauna Kea. Although there is no sunset view, the light reflecting off the telescopes and the mountain is magical. Already thinking about booking our next trip!
