Love this place!!

Love this place!! Absolutely loved this place from the moment we stepped in the door. Plenty of space for families and the view off of the lanai is amazing! We had 8 people staying with our group and we never felt like we were crowded. It was great only being about 50 yards away from the pool! Any problems we did have (grill ran out of propane and we couldn't figure out the ice maker) were quickly handled by the manager. If we ever come back this is will be the first place I will check availability for. Thanks for such an amazing trip!

Disappointing Property.

Disappointing Property.
We recently returned from our annual vacation in Mauna Lani. The house we had last year had sold so we chose this one and were terribly disappointed. The carpets were dirty and had to be cleaned during our stay, the ice maker is broken, the grill is broken, the coffee grinder was broken and the linens are old. The only thing going for the property is the manager. He was very attentive and did his best to address the issues, but there was only so much he could do. The ice maker and grill remained inoperable for our entire stay which impacted our ability to cook. The location and bones of the house are great but the interior is in dire need of attention. We would not recommend this property.
My Response
This home is scheduled for renovation, Feb 17, 2015 - Mar 3, 2015. Carpets will be replaced, and complete painting will be done. Some furniture will replaced as well as new wall art, all under the direction of a professional decorator. All linen will be replaced. Minor Appliances and will be replaced. Dishes and towels replaced. The BBQ grill has worked for previous and subsequent guests. The ice maker was turned off by a switch in the freezer. Management did not know about the ice maker not working until the day of the guest's departure. The ice maker was turn back on by a on/off switch. The coffee grinder was replaced.

Amazing & Wonderful!!!

Amazing & Wonderful!!! We recently celebrated my husband's 80th birthday with a week-long stay at KaMilo. Our group consisted of 15 adults and 8 children, ages 5 to 18. We found three 4-bedroom units in KaMilo that were close to each other and to the recreation area (pools, fitness center, pavilion), all managed by Shig. During months of planning, he was patient, gracious, knowledgeable, and responsive in answering my questions. His "Insider's Guide" booklet was supremely helpful, and his recommendations proved to be spot on. Our beautiful, spacious units easily accommodated meals that included all 23 of us without feeling crowded. The bedroom configurations worked out perfectly. The unusual (to us) lock-box for entry to the units turned out to be the perfect solution for multiple inhabitants often going their separate ways. We couldn't have been more pleased. During our stay, my husband and I hosted two catered dinners for our group: an Arrival Dinner prepared in our kitchen by a great chef/caterer from Waimea, and a more formal Birthday Dinner held in the wonderful KaMilo Gathering Place Pavilion (Shig's suggestion) catered by a Mauna Lani chef who used the barbecue and other cooking facilities to create a magical celebratory dinner. We were able to reserve the Pavilion for the whole evening. These dinners turned out to be far more comfortable and congenial than trying to find restaurants for such a large group. Our group made the most of KaMilo: the lap pool, free style pool, hot tub, and fitness center got a lot of use thanks to being close by and perfect for a short or long visit; the private beach club was enjoyed for its beautiful setting, wonderful snorkeling, and great food at the restaurant. The nearby Foodland was a great convenience. Throughout the island, scenery was spectacular, sunsets breathtaking, and colorful fish and huge honu lounging on the rocks memorable. The Big Island is incredibly well-suited to suit a wide variety of interests. Supporting and underlying all the fun was the comfort of our clean and luxurious accommodations. The pictures on all three VRBO sites capture the beauty of the furnishings, but being there brings out their ability to house 9 people without feeling at all crowded. Any questions or concerns were addressed easily and immediately. KaMilo at Mauna Lani is a great location. A KaMilo residence managed by Shig and his wife, Maya, is the perfect answer to whatever your needs might be.

Awsome Golf Course Views!

Awsome Golf Course Views! This is a fantastic luxury Vacation Home. Fully equipped with all the amenities. Huge Recreation Center with 3 Pools and Jacuzzi, BBQ pavilion and work-out center with lockers and showers. From the our own Lanai, we enjoyed BBQ'ing and watching golfers playing as the sunset over the ocean. The private Beach Club has the best snorkeling around. We will definitely return again.

Beautiful property with great pools and amenities!

Beautiful property with great pools and amenities! We stayed at this home with our two adult children and spouses and one grandchild. It was a good set up for our group with adequate space for all. The house was clean and some minor maintanance issues were taken care of by the property manager. Good sized kitchen so we were able to cook together. The upstairs lanai had a beautiful view overlooking the golf course and was well protected from the wind. However the seating on the lanai was uncomfortable and inadequate as it only accommodated four people. As we eat most of our meals outside when we are in Hawaii it would have been great to have a table large enough to seat our group on the lanai. The Kamilo property is beautiful and has two large pools and a kiddie pool which is great for young children. The Beach Club is a wonderful place to relax, swim and snorkel and there was an abundance of beach toys and equipment provided.

Nice resort, nice property manager, but few minor issues.

Nice resort, nice property manager, but few minor issues.
I will put the pros and cons as reviews are designed to help fellow travelers make an educated decision. Pros: We have stayed at Mauna Lani Resort for two years in a row, both at KaMilo. The property manager was friendly and helpful. The golf course and distant ocean views were pleasant. The snorkel beach is nice. The ocean at Mauna Lani Resort is very pretty for taking walks. Cons: very windy almost all of the time, we don't find wind relaxing. For a $280 cleaning fee the floors should have been clean, we used a roll of paper towels to get the existing dirt off the tile. There were dead bugs in the window sills. For a million dollar home, the owners should not have put in such hard mattresses. Our daughter had a backache all week. The living room furniture was uncomfortable. If the owners put in new mattresses and added new living room furniture, it would be much nicer. Also, someone needs to ensure that the maids are thoroughly cleaning the floors since you pay for it in your rental fee.

My Response
“I am sorry to hear of issues stated in this review. There were some windy days here in the Kohala Coast of the Big Island, as well as other parts of the island. This town home has the most wind protected orientation of all the town homes in KaMilo. Unfortunately, there is not much we can do about the winds. This is Hawaii. Comfort in furniture is an individual taste. I have not had any complaints about the comfort of the living room furniture nor the firm mattresses. I was told by an orthopedic surgeon that firm mattresses are better for people with back problems than soft mattresses. However, we can supply, on advanced request, memory foam toppers to soften a firm mattress. Lastly, dirty floors and dead bugs in the window sill are not acceptable. There has been a change in the staff of the cleaning crew, and tighter inspection to prevent this again. I have refunded the cleaning fee of $280 back to this reviewer, with my sincerest apology. There is a note in the Rental Agreement, stating if there are any housekeeping problems, to call me and I will have housekeepers re-clean the town home at no extra costs. There is no need for vacationers to clean their unit. So please let me know about housekeeping and other issues. Shig Shiwota,”

Excellent home for a family vacation!

Excellent home for a family vacation! Our family of 6 enjoyed our 8 night stay at this wonderful home. It is perfectly set up for a family to enjoy time together but still have space for private time. Shig the manager of the property was responsive and available to help with minor issues that arose. We had significant wind on the Big Island during our stay and the outdoor lanai was shielded from the heavy winds. The house is well insulated and sound proofed. There is construction going on in the development during the day time hours. We did not notice it much because we were off at the beach and pools during construction time.

Excellent Location.

Excellent Location. I stayed at this property last year with my family. The property is very well situated within a new compound. The compound is very beautiful, with execellent amenities e.g. 2 pools, fitness centre, outdoor kitchen, which all can be used freely. You have the possibility to go to a beach nearby (you need a car to get there, its a 5 min. drive), which is reserved to the residents from the Mauna Lani Resort, access pass is located in the house. A supermarket and variety of shops and restaurants is within walking distance. The house itself is well equipped with everything you need for a great vacation, even snokerling and beach eqipment can be found in the double garage. Everything was very clean and tidy. The kitchen is a dream for all ambitious cooks, featured with everything you could ask for. All rooms a really beautifully decorated, the bathroom at the ground floor is spectacular. From the balcony you have a great view overlooking one of the two golf courses of the resort. The owner could think about changing the dining room furniture, because it is not so comfortable to sit on these chairs! All in all we had a great time staying at this house and would recommend it 100 %, we are already planning to come back there. We could recommend a visit at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, it is very pricy, but we had the best steaks ever !

Great Home in Mauna Lani - KaMilo.

Great Home in Mauna Lani - KaMilo. This is really a great house, we stayed here for a week with my family of six. The pool was a short walk, the beach club was a short drive and was great, shopping was close, some good resteraunts [Ruth's Chris, Tommy Bahama, others] nearby, played both the North and the South golf courses. Enjoyed watching the sunset from the deck. Overall a great place to stay. Property manager was very helpful, helping us know Costco was near the airport, and some ideas on where to visit. Hope to come back soon.

Beautiful Spacious Townhome. We had a wonderful stay at this well maintained townhome. Spacious enough for 3 couples with kids. The listing and photos described the property accurately. Owner was flexible and quick to respond to all questions. Would highly recommend this property to friends and relatives. Close proximity to beach club, grocery store, restaurants, shops, and golf.
